Nationwide Heat Cable Design & Estimates

Plan your roof, gutter and downspout heat cable system with a design professional, wherever your project is in the United States. Rocky Mountain Heat Cable welcomes homeowners, electricians, installers, contractors, property managers and HOAs nationwide. Start with the details you have; we will help identify what is needed for an estimate. We respond within 1 business day. Measurements and voltage are optional; “not sure” is welcome. We specialize in GutterMelt self-regulating (SR) heat tape for roofs, gutters and downspouts, and we have a master electrician on staff.

Not Sure Where to Start?

What We Help You Plan

  • Roof-edge, gutter, valley and downspout drainage paths, including the discharge point.
  • GutterMelt self-regulating output options: 5, 9 or 12 W/ft at the stated rating conditions.
  • Cable length, power supply, cold-start circuit limits and suitable control options.
  • Connection, mounting and support components for the proposed roof and gutter materials.
  • A project-specific scope and estimate based on the information reviewed.

How the Design and Estimate Process Works

1. Tell us about the property

Send your city and state, roof and gutter materials, approximate measurements and the locations where ice forms. Use our measurement checklist if helpful. Attach photos or drawings to the request form below, or email design@rockymountainheatcable.com.

2. Review the layout and electrical needs

A design professional discusses the complete drainage path, cable output, circuit capacity, controls and installation constraints. Site conditions and electrical requirements must be verified by the qualified people responsible for the work.

3. Review the proposed scope and estimate

We identify the proposed system and project assumptions for your review. The written proposal defines the deliverables, included materials and services, responsibilities and next steps. Final electrical work, permits and installation details are coordinated for the actual site.

4. Arrange installation

Our team provides installation throughout the Wasatch Front and surrounding communities, subject to project review and availability. Outside that area, you can work with your own qualified installer. Where an approved partner is available, we can discuss a referral and request your permission before sharing your project details.

Outside Our Local Installation Area?

We are building relationships with electricians and heat cable installers to connect designed projects with local installation services. A referral depends on approved coverage, project fit and availability. An independent installer confirms site conditions and agrees the labor scope, schedule, charges and workmanship coverage directly with you.

Our Heat Cable System Design Checklist

  • Project city, state and ZIP; property type and number of buildings.
  • Gutter runs, downspout heights, eave overhangs, valleys and problem areas.
  • Roof and gutter materials, access restrictions and photos or a sketch.
  • Known power supply, existing circuits and control preferences.
  • Whether you need a new system, expansion or help replacing an existing installation.

Common Heat Cable Design Questions

How Do Roof Valleys Affect Cable Length?

Valleys add a separate drainage route beyond the measured eave and gutter length. The GutterMelt SR manual describes a double run extending at least two-thirds of the way up a valley. Overhang depth and downspout routing also change the layout. See the manufacturer-based sizing guidance.

Will Roof Heat Cable Melt All the Snow Off My Roof?

No. GutterMelt SR helps maintain meltwater channels along designated roof, gutter and downspout paths. It does not remove the full roof snow load or prevent snow movement. A complete design considers where the water will discharge. Read more roof heat cable FAQs.
